10 BEST SUPERBOWL COMMERCIALS
BUDWEISER – “RESPECT”
The number two commercial in the list of 10 best Superbowl commercials is the respect commercial by the beer brand Budweiser. This commercial was produced after the terrorist attacks on the twin towers, the 9/11, in order to pay tribute to the lots of people who died. The advertisement was aired only once so that Budweiser could not benefit monetarily from that.
The advertisement is beautiful by terms of meaning, music and aesthetics. The commercial starts with a number of Clydesdale thoroughbred horses running through a beautiful scenic area, covered with snow. There are a few people on the road, who go about their own tasks but do not seem very happy. The snow covered area is very serene and the horses keep running in a trot. The horses are joined together in a carriage, but no driver is visible. A beautiful and soulful score keeps playing throughout. After a while, the horses reach a point where there is nothing on the ground, referring to ‘ground zero’ after the attacks. All the horses come to a halt at the same time, and then rhythmically hang their heads in tribute. The one minute long advertisement even features on the list of 10 best Superbowl commercials is a wonderful and soulful one, which is a marvelous attempt on the part of Budweiser in order to pay a fitting tribute to the ones who died in the tragic attacks. Most of the commercials aired during superbowl aim at being hilarious, but this was a very different theme altogether, which showed the world that humanity exists in the corporate and business world as well.
The advertisement was released in the year 2002. In a show of tremendous sensitivity, Budweiser decided to not broadcast it for more than a day. This move truly was a classy one. Even then, a lot of Americans voted this commercial as the best superbowl commercial that year. The Budweiser Company was appreciated a lot for this gesture. The company has been known for its marvelous and absolutely hilarious superbowl commercials, of which this one has made its way to the 2nd position in the list of 10 best Superbowl commercials.
