The #9 Most Expensive Wine Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1982 saw the light of the market at $390 per case. It was auctioned at the same cost per bottle till the first quarter of 1996. But, the sale of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1982 was made at Christie’s/Zachy’s New York in 1997 for an astonishing price of $420,000 ($700 per bottle).

The village of Pauillac is the location of Château Mouton Rothschild, a wine estate in the Medoc that is 30 miles northwest of Bordeaux, France. The red wine of the same name produced by the estate is esteemed as one of the greatest clarets in the world. Nathaniel de Rothschild has given the present name to the wine that was previously known as Château Brane-Mouton in 1853.

Today, the wine is fetching an amazing amount of $1,307 per bottle that is more than forty times than the first price.

The owner of Château Mouton Rothschild partnered with Robert Mondavi in 1980. The purpose of this joint venture was the creation of Opus One Winery in Oakville, California. Château Mouton Rothschild joined with Concha Toro of Chile in 1997.

Production of a quality Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine was the target of their efforts in collaboration. The winery was built in Chile’s Maipo Valley: The Almaviva.

The vineyards that the wine producing estate, Château Mouton Rothschild owns are located on the slopes in the Bordeaux region. Grapes of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety are mainly grown in the vineyards. The 203-acre vineyards under possession of the estate consist of Petit Verdot (2%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Merlot (11%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (77%).

Baroness Philippine de Rothschild is the present owner of Château Mouton Rothschild. Baron Philippine de Rothschild had implemented the idea of hiring a renowned artist of the day to design the label every year. Many great painters of the world have created the labels of the wine since 1946.
