#9 Elizabeth Hurley & Arun Nayar

The #9 Most Expensive Wedding in the World is the ceremony that tied Arun Nayar a prosperous Indian businessperson and Elizabeth Hurley a model-cum-actress with the unbreakable threads of marriage in 2007. The wedding ceremony was an eight-day long festivity across two continents – Europe and Asia. It made its way from the Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire, Britain to Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jaipur, India.

There was no end to the flamboyance of the wedding ceremony that was a harmony between two different cultures and castes. After the couple’s first wedding followed by a grand reception in Hurley’s hometown of England, the festivity switched its venue to Rajasthan the land of kings. The happy couple tied their knot again amidst traditions of a Hindu wedding at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.

Jodhpur, the land of Rajputs with opulence in Indian culture and history witnessed the lavish wedding ceremony that took place through observation of Hindu customs and traditions to the core. The wedding was a rich pageantry of luxurious parties that were held at various mighty palaces in Jaipur and Jodhpur. The couple’s accommodation at the suite of Umaid Bhawan Palace cost $10,000 a night.

Everything from the decoration of the wedding venue to the design of the couple’s wedding fineries was exclusive and elegant beyond measure. Rohit Bal an Indian fashion designer of international repute had designed the wedding apparels for the bride and the bridegroom. The couple dressed in the best of gorgeous garments was the center of attraction. Elizabeth Hurley had worn a “lehanga” and “chunni” delicately embroidered in white and encrusted with jewels. A traditional sherwani or tight-fitting knee-length coat steeped in dazzles of diamonds was designed for Arun.

The wedding ceremony was followed by a pompous procession of elegantly adorned horses, camels and elephants through the vast ground of the palace. A grand reception was arranged in welcome to the couple at the Mehrangarh Fort on a moonlit night. Prestigious personalities and leading celebrities from countries across the globe had flown to Jodhpur to bless the wedding couple. The security to ensure continuation of the wedding ceremonies at smooth pace was tout and intense.
