Lollapalooza Music Festival, Chicago, IL - 1st to 3rd August 2008
Lollapalooza Music Festival – the name says it all. Known the world over as one of the greatest outdoor festivals in America, held in the beautiful Grant Park in Chicago.
As was the case last year, the 2008 line up for the Lollapalooza Music Festival has not been announced yet – it will be put up on the website on April 7th. But this year will undoubtedly be huge like the years before, and there are normally over 100 acts over the three days.
Not even the kids are left out at this three day festival – there are always workshops for the next generation of music fans. Last year this included a Hip-Hop workshop and child safe dance floors.
The 2007 festival had, among the extensive selection of rock and pop groups playing, Pearl Jam, Daft Punk and Snow Patrol. It is incredible that so many top artists can come together for a music festival, but the Lollapalooza Music Festival seems to draw them in. Snow Patrol are huge in the UK, winning many awards including the 2007 Brit Awards Best British Album and producing a string of hits throughout the world.
Of course, a festival is so much more than just the headline acts. As well as rock, pop, hip-hop and R&B, there is a large array of craft activities, dance and even comedy acts on stage. The organisers try to bring back the nostalgia of events such as Woodstock from the 1960s, with a real community formed by those who attend. It is one event where the festival goers are really welcomed as part of what goes on. Though it has been through some rough times, it is now a major event for Chicago, and the festival has been planned to happen each year until at least 2011. Those that go find it an experience not to be missed. The Lollapalooza Music Festival is held in August.
