The Most Expensive Mp3 in the World - iPod by Heyerdahl = $45,000

The most expensive Mp3 player in the world is absolutely identical in styling to an Apple iPod shuffle (with a retail price of only $79), the iDiamond is sold gold with 430 diamonds studding the tiny player.  Norway’s Heyerdahl Jeweler will sell you the most expensive Mp3 ipod for $45,000.

It is a beautiful piece, and would look just great clipped onto your sports bra at the gym, but don’t dare lose those headphones – they’ve got diamonds on them, too! The makers of the iDiamond don’t mention any of the actual technical specifications of this player – capacity, compatibility, etc.

Another player in the $45,000 price range is Douglas J’s “The Presidential” MP3 player. Designed to be a “luxury media player with the most advanced technology available”, Douglas J is also quite shy about stating exact specifications. The Presidential looks much like a standard iPod, but comes in a range of garish colors with various diamond-studded designs. Although the value of the diamonds is impressive, the value of the iDiamond itself is negligible. The good news is that the player will arrive at your doorstep, hand-delivered by its own private escort. And, luck you – maintenance is included.

If you’re running low on cash and feel like going for a “low-end” MP3 player, TrekStor makes a $20,000 model. Interestingly advertised as “a luxurious piece of jewelry”, this MP3 player is cast in 18K gold, with 63 one-karat diamonds. Although not as expensive as the top-of-the-line players, the TrekStor has “full-bodied sound” and a 40GB drive, half the size of my iPod.

When shopping for an MP3 player, you might look for capacity, battery life, or even cool factor. Everyone will admit that an iPod is the coolest of them all, and many people trade their old iPod in when the newest one comes out. The latest and greatest iPod sells for $499 and many people might just think it is the most expensive MP3 player in the world, but it’s not even in the running.

Essentially, the most expensive MP3 players in the world are gold-covered, diamond-encrusted, low-tech rip-offs of iPods. For my money, I think I would rather have the best iPod than the most expensive in the world.
