Essence Music Festival 2008, New Orleans, LA - July 4-6th

The Essence Music Festival in New Orleans is set to be an R&B festival not to be missed. Even with many top artists still to be confirmed, the festival is already looking hot.

One of the artists already set to perform is Kanye West. This critically acclaimed rap artist is riding high after his hugely successful album Graduation – he is stronger than ever now, and the festival will be blown away by his alternative hip-hop sound.

Essence Music Festival is also to be graced with a performance by Mary J. Blige, rightly called the “Queen of Hip-Hop”. Like Kanye West, Mary has received award after award for her personal and earthy songs. With her number one Billboard R&B hit album, Growing Pains, she has so many top songs to perform, including “Just Fine”, for which she was nominated best female R&B artist at the 50th Grammy Awards.

Another contemporary hip-hop artist, Chris Brown, is due to perform on Friday 4th. Chris has been steadily getting recognition for his style and talent, and since he is only 18 years old he has both the freshest face and the best sound to thrill the Essence Music Festival. Great things are expected.

Another Chris, Chris Rock, will be taking the stage in New Orleans. This comedian, who started out in Beverly Hills Cop II and is the voice of Mooseblood the Mosquito in the Bee Movie, is said to be one of the best stand-ups of all time. He can’t fail to bring the house down.

From an earlier age of soul and R&B, we will see Maze featuring Frankie Beverly on Sunday. Maze has a list as long as your arm of classic R&B hits and they have been influential in many areas with their creativity and honesty.

With other artists such as Morris Day and Jill Scott also due to play, R&B fans should not miss the Essence Music Festival.
