10,000 Lakes Music Festival, Detroit Lakes, MN - 23rd - 26th July 2008
The 10,000 Lakes Music Festival, or 10KLM08 as it is being called this year, is shaping up to be an incredible event, even with over forty more top artists still to be announced.
The festival is situated amongst the deep wooded and lakeside areas near to Detroit. With five different stages, you can pick and choose which artists to see, while also taking in the stunning scenery. What a line-up there is this year! With ex Grateful Dead bass player performing with his band Phil Lesh and Friends, the woodlands will be rocking with their folk and psychedelic rock sounds. The 10,000 Lakes Music Festival will quite simply ROCK! It should be interesting to see Dark Star Orchestra perform, who recreate the original Grateful Dead shows… who knows what will happen?
Another of psychedelic rocks greats, The Flaming Lips, are due to headline. The band never fail to create a visual spectacular, and because of their fresh sound they are known worldwide and are the perfect choice for this out-door alternative rock festival.
In a different style is the subtly funky Slightly Stoopid, with their guitar lead tunes which just seem to get under your fingernails so you can’t get them out.
With the Everyone Orchestra also making an appearance and the typically unplanned line-up, the whole 10,000 Lakes Music Festival will be a feast for the ears. There is also mention that Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood are playing this year. These talented musicians will be laying down yet more catchy grooves, different every time, yet always hypnotic and definitely funky. The mastery of Scofield on the guitar will make this trio an unmissable set.
On other stages there are going to be up and coming bands – you never quite know what you are going to get, but it will definitely be worth hearing. If you get time, you could even take a long walk through the glorious woodland (not to mention around the lakes themselves!) at the 10,000 Lakes Music Festival.
